What's On the Bookshelf
Over the years, we’ve had numerous conversations with industry leaders and often one of the topics that we discuss is the latest book read. We thought it would be fun to share some of these booklover conversations with our readers. Here are what our industry leaders are reading.

American Hotel Stories
by Francisca Matteoli
{Review by HU Staff}

The HU staff has really enjoyed reading, “American Hotel Stories,” by Francisca Mattéoli. It is a fascinating look at several recognizable properties spanning five continents and the celebrity stories behind them. From Al Capone staying at The Biltmore, to Woody Allen playing jazz with his band at The Carlyle, the reader really gets the opportunity to see how these celebrities spent their time at these amazing hotels and resorts. And who doesn't recognize the Hotel Del Coronado from the movie, “Some Like It Hot” with Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis?

The book explores not only the properies but the myths and legends behind these celebrities.

Here are just a few of the many fascinating stories you will find in this book...

1. Which president and first lady honeymooned at San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, Calif.?

2. Which famous rock star lived in the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles from 1970-1971? (From James Dean and Humphrey Bogart to Led Zeppelin riding motorcycles through a lobby, this property has had its fair share of excitement and even ghost tales.)

3. What infamous St. Pete Beach hotel was F. Scott Fitzgerald's dwelling place in the 1930s after his return from Paris?*

*[1. Jacqueline and John F. Kennedy; 2. Jim Morrison; and 3. Don Cesar Beach Resort.]
