What to Read: Inferno By Dan Brown, a Review by Bill Martin

What to Read
Bill Martin

I recently had my vacation plans turn into a "stay-cation" due to a family emergency.  That emergency involved a lot of time in waiting rooms and sitting around the house waiting for another update. In times like these I find it tough to read a self help or business book, because I just can't concentrate. I needed to get lost in some really good fiction. The timing was perfect. As soon as I jumped on Amazon to see what I could download, I was prompted for the latest Dan Brown creation, Inferno.  My only regret?  It didn't last the whole week!

I'm a Dan Brown fan, but you probably figured that out already. I was skeptical when a friend told me to try the DaVinci Code a couple of years ago, but once I started, I couldn't put it down. Perhaps it's because I'm Catholic, perhaps it's all the symbolism, perhaps it's all the scavenger hunt like puzzles, I just find the series of books from Mr. Brown to be incredibly entertaining.  There are just enough real world facts in them to make you think the story is plausible ... and that makes it a lot of fun.

Inferno is very similar in nature to the rest of the series in style; puzzles, plot twists and unexpected turns keep you flipping pages. One interesting twist in this iteration is the main character, the professor, spends a great deal of time trying to piece together what has happened to him as he wakes up in a hospital and has no recollection of how he got there. The clues start from there and keep building throughout the story.

A word to the wise ... don't get comfortable with who the good guys and the bad guys seem to be ... you just never know. That's not a spoiler, just a tease.  Enjoy the read.  I sure did, and it was just what I needed.
