What's On the Bookshelf
Over the years, we’ve had numerous conversations with industry leaders and often one of the topics that we discuss is the latest book read. We thought it would be fun to share some of these booklover conversations with our readers. Here are what our industry leaders are reading.

Mr Mercedes
by Stephen King

[Review by Merrie Bird, Corp. IT Director, Canyon Ranch]

As is his trademark, Stephen King masterfully develops the characters and provides a level of depth that invests the readers in the story. A terrorist who was raised by an alcoholic, commits one massive crime and uses people he involved, without their knowledge, to continue killing through subtle to direct conversational bullying. We follow a retired police detective and his unusual friends who look into the crimes and try to find the killer before the next murderous event.

While the use of jargon is over the top, the novel is thought- provoking. Depression is something that has touched everyone in one way or another. Unfortunately it seems to be more common in retired people, especially those whose work was active and engaging. The use of technology, specifically social media, to lower someone’s self-esteem and drive a person into depression, is not just impacting our youth.  He may not have intended it, but King’s novel reminds us that mental illness is real and we must find ways to help those in need.
