I am not one to work on an airplane. To me it is a great place to read which is what I always do unless I fall asleep. I have never flown Jet Blue, but I know many who love this airline. Delta created a knockoff called Song that didn’t make it, but the Song planes are now in the Delta fleet. I am hooked. Free satellite TV, pay movies if you want and many other cool things are available with their in-flight entertainment system, but nothing beats the trivia game you can play against other passengers. It scares me how much worthless trivia I know, but I couldn’t beat David in seat 11D. I kept coming in second in every game played. Let’s face it; the No. 1 thing we all deal with on flights is boredom. In-flight entertainment is a great escape and a great way to meet other passengers. I went to the front of the plane to meet David in 11D and walked away pretty bummed. The guy was half my age and he knew more worthless trivia then I did. Who would have thought that a fun time could be had on an airplane? I need to try Jet Blue someday since it is the airline that started this craze.
I am flying to Connecticut to attend the Hotel Information Systems Users’ Group. I love when I get invited and my schedule works out that I can attend. I especially enjoy these conferences when a company was recently purchased. I remember Springer-Miller when it was bought by Par and Newmarket after it acquired Daylight Software. Nothing spectacular comes out of this except fun conversations about the future, after all, business is business and acquisitions happen for a number of reasons. In these previous cases it seemed to only make the companies stronger. It should be a fun conference, and it is also a good excuse to visit Mohegan Sun, which is a little Las Vegas if I have ever seen one.
In two weeks I get to go to the HFTP Annual Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia. It isn’t often that I am truly excited about the location of a conference but Vancouver is the exception. I was last there in the late ‘80s and remember being told to rent a car and drive up to Whistler. I was so glad I did as it was easily one of the most beautiful drives I have ever taken. If you are attending the conference and have time, take the trip. You will thank me.
It is just a little over a month until the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show in New York (http://www.ihmrs.com). As of Monday we had two spots available in our Technology Pavilion, so e-mail Sharon at mailto:Sharon@hospitalityupgrade.com if you are considering exhibiting. It is a great (and less expensive) way to take advantage of the second largest gathering of technology people outside of HITEC. The fact that HFTP has brought Guestroom 2010 to the show has helped too. We are really looking forward to this show that I have been attending since I was in college. Not only do you get to meet the Hospitality Upgrade team, but Dick Johnson, who created Hotel Online way back before anybody was even considering delivering a daily e-mail to your computer, will also be in the Technology Pavilion. We hope to see you there.
Wow, I actually enjoyed writing this on a plane. Life is full of firsts and this was my first Siegel Sez written on a plane versus writing about something weird happening on a plane. (Remember when I got on the wrong flight?) And since they just told me for the second time to close up my laptop, I’d better finish. Here now is the real reason we are here—Jon Inge’s technology review of the last few weeks. I will see you at the end with this week’s attempt at you-know-what.

You-Know-What
And now for you-know-what…
A married couple was in a terrible accident where the man's face was severely burned. The doctor told the husband that they couldn't graft any skin from his body because he was too thin. So the wife offered to donate some of her own skin. However, the only skin on her body that the doctor felt was suitable would have to come from her buttocks. The husband and wife agreed that they would tell no one about where the skin came from, and they requested that the doctor also honor their secret.
After the surgery was completed, everyone was astounded at the man's new face. He looked more handsome than he ever had before. All his friends and relatives just went on and on about his youthful beauty.
One day, he was alone with his wife, and he was overcome with emotion at her sacrifice. He said, "Dear, I just want to thank you for everything you did for me. How can I possibly repay you?"
"My darling," she replied, "I get all the thanks I need every time I see your mother kiss you on the cheek."
