The Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Organisation has developed one of the more interesting approaches to a hotel room of the future in one of its laboratories, with an emphasis on identifying new technology that can help guests relax.  Current technologies being evaluated include:
- all rounded surfaces (no straight lines), to promote mental calm.
- integrated light-changing sequences to bathe the room in the guest’s choice of color washes.
- a bed that gently rocks from side to side.
- an intelligent floor with sensors that predict where the guest is heading and automatically turn on the lights to help him or her get there.
- a jacuzzi tub with infra-red heating elements in the wall.
- a bathroom mirror which doubles as a computer screen for checking e-mails or general Internet access.
- a vapor pot pumping aromatherapy steam.
- a mini-bar with a mini-robot to bring the drinks to the guest.
- a voice-activated, wall-mounted control unit to manage the above, and to respond to hotel-information questions such as "What are the dinner specials tonight?" or "What time is breakfast served?"
- electronic windows that turn from transparent to opaque at a single command and then function as a giant video display for movies, TV, etc.

GuestWare Enterprise consolidates these preferences as well as the history of every guest's stay into one database to manage the loyalty program and help the hotels consistently meet or exceed guest expectations.  http://www.personalityhotels.comhttp://www.guestware.com
