Detroit’s new MotorCity Casino•Hotel, is a state-of-the-art entertainment venue featuring such amenities as preprogrammed room temperature, a mini-bar that tracks your favorite snacks, and room keycards that double as players' club cards for using casino dollars, all courtesy of an advanced hospitality communications solution from Nortel.

“We want our guests to have all the conveniences of home, whether they’re here for business or pleasure,” said David Nehra, vice president and chief information officer for MotorCity Casino•Hotel.

“We’re firm believers that we can enhance our guests’ experience through the utilization of technology without them being aware its there,” Nehra said. “Nortel’s robust voice and data communications infrastructure is the linchpin that allows us to provide an experience tailored to the unique needs of each guest.”

“By implementing IP network technology, we’re helping MotorCity Casino•Hotel to build guest loyalty and bolster profitability while also expanding casino services,” said Charles Salameh, vice president, Network Business Solutions, Nortel.

Nortel’s Hospitality Solution provides unified communications throughout MotorCity Casino•Hotel ’s 400 guest rooms, 100,000 square feet of gaming space, 67,000 square feet of convention space, 1,200-seat theater, spa, night club and four-diamond restaurant.

Nortel IP Phones in the guest rooms provide color touch-screen access to hotel services. Nortel WLAN handsets allow guests and staff to make and receive calls while roaming throughout the hotel and casino. And if they’re not taking calls, a Nortel Hospitality Messaging Server and Nortel CallPilot unified messaging make sure they don’t miss anything important.

Behind the scenes, a Nortel IP contact center helps reservation agents collect data from guests – like room temperature preference – that allows the hotel to provide first-class customer service. A Nortel application gateway allows hotel IT staff to develop new applications for the IP phones. Redundant Nortel ethernet routing ewitches help ensure fast, reliable data transfer. And Nortel secure network access provides user authentication to help ensure network and data security.

Nortel Hospitality Solutions are helping to provide an enhanced guest experience, differentiated services for meeting and event planners, and improved staff productivity for some of the world’s most well-known hotels and hotel brands including The Cove Atlantis, a luxury hotel opened in March 2007 at Kerzner International’s Atlantis resort on Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas, and W Dallas - Victory, an ultra-modern Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide property located in the heart of Dallas.
