Sunshine Village, The Rockies’ Biggest Chooses SquirrelOne

Sunshine Village, the location of some of Canada’s best snow and longest ski seasons in the Canadian Rockies for over 80 years, contracts ARAMARK Canada to operate 11 different food and beverage outlets that include full service dining rooms, bars, a pub, quick-serve coffee shops and a staff cafeteria.

Squirrel has been the point of sale system for the last 13 years. 

Originally a Squirrel Classic site, the mountain upgraded to SquirrelOne three years ago.  When the time came to upgrade the point-of-sale system at the resort, ARAMARK Foodservices Director Mike Roberge did his homework. 
 
“We ultimately chose to stay with Squirrel Systems and upgrade to SquirrelOne because of the exceptional reporting capabilities, the ease of remote access and a very competitive price point,” said Roberge. “Sunshine Village is an incredibly challenging environment. We operate 21 hours per day, 7 days a week and process approximately 10,000 transactions a day from 30 Squirrel workstations, all running from on one server located at the bottom of the mountain.”

The system runs on a multiblade server and is connected to the various locations by an underground fiber optic network.  With the server located in the basement of a building at the bottom of the mountain, it is critical to be able to remotely access all system functions. 

“It’s easy for me to make configuration changes, access reports and view activities at all 11 units from my office or anywhere on the network,” said Roberge.  “Our night audit staff can do everything they need to do efficiently from their location.” 

Transactions from the 11 foodservice facilities on the mountain can be electronically posted to hotel guest rooms via an interface between SquirrelOne and the Medallion Property Management System at the Sunshine Inn.
