The 2008 Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference (HITEC®) officially kicks off with two technology experts speaking about current challenges and trends in the technology industry.

The opening session for HITEC 2008 is Monday, June 16 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas.

"HITEC 2008's opening session is unique this year in that it provides a double feature for attendees," said Frank Wolfe, CAE, CEO of HFTP. "Not only will attendees hear from Dell executive Paul Bell about Dell's successful adaptation in the constantly evolving global market, they will also listen to commentary from trend watcher Michael Tchong on how technology continues to change our lifestyles."

Consumers and businesses alike are finding themselves in a rapidly evolving "Connected Era." This has technology decision makers dealing with new challenges, from exploding data storage requirements to figuring out how to go Green. The opening session begins with Paul Bell, president of Dell Inc.'s Americas region, giving insight into this exciting new era and discussing how Dell is simplifying IT by removing cost and complexity through leading-edge, energy-efficient products and solutions and customizable services.

"Dell has been a long-time power in the continually evolving technology hardware market, maintaining a top spot by adapting its business strategies to fit with worldwide technology trends," said David Sjolander, CHTP, HITEC Advisory Council chair and VP of hotel information systems for Carlson Hospitality Corporation. "Dell's strategies serve as a successful model to all professionals in the technology industry, and it is an honor to learn from a top executive as HITEC visits the location of Dell's global headquarters."

The opening session closes with Michael Tchong, founder of Ubercool, a next-generation marketing services company that publishes and produces trend-setting media and entertainment properties. As a noted trend watcher, Tchong's 20 years living at the bleeding edge of consumer technology trends has earned him a reputation as one of the savviest thinkers of the information age. His presentation explores the exhilarating changes in the current technology landscape, as society rapidly progresses forward in a never-ending quest to weave technology into the fabric of life.

Immediately following the opening session, from 6:30 - 8 p.m., is the HITEC 2008 Welcome Reception, also located at the Austin Convention Center. The welcome reception provides an opportunity to network and mingle with fellow attendees and exhibitors.
