Birch Street Systems, Inc., a leading provider of hospitality industry e-procurement and back office automation solutions, announced that it has appointed yet another well-known hotel industry veteran to its executive ranks: David Chestler has joined the company as senior vice president of sales and marketing.

This appointment comes on the heels of last month’s announcement that John F. Davis, III has joined the company as chief executive officer.  Launched in 2002 and headquartered in Newport Beach, Calif., Birch Street‘s Web-based systems are used by more than 1,800 hotels in more than 25 countries.

Chestler brings nearly two decades of hotel industry sales experience to Birch Street Systems. His background includes managing sales at three well-known hotel technology providers: Pegasus Solutions, Utell International and Visual Data Corp. Most recently, he was senior vice president of corporate business development for Pegasus Solutions, where he managed global sales for more than six years.  While with Pegasus he was responsible for approximately 50 percent of the company’s revenues, managing large hotel reservations contracts and complicated partnerships with major travel distribution players such as Expedia and Priceline.  Working closely with Pegasus Solutions’ former CEO John Davis, Chestler played a critical role in supporting Pegasus’ global expansion.

“While Birch Street has accomplished incredible industry penetration over the last couple of years, it was in need of a strong sales leader with an established hotel industry reputation and relationships,” said Birch Street Systems CEO John F. Davis III.  “David Chestler was undoubtedly the best candidate for the job.  With him at my side, I’m looking forward to seeing Birch Street double or even triple in size over the next couple of years.”

“I am thrilled to be reunited with one of the travel technology world’s best-known visionaries: John F. Davis III,” Chestler said.  “I’m looking forward to executing on his vision as he and Birch Street tackle the challenges and opportunities in the hotel industry back-office automation arena.”

Prior to joining Pegasus and Visual Data/Hotel View, Chestler served for nine years in sales and development with Utell International, now a hotel representation unit of Pegasus. In this role, he oversaw $400 million in annual revenue and a portfolio of 1,200 hotels.

Formed in 2002, Birch Street offers one of the only enterprise e-procurement systems designed specifically for the hospitality industry, offering comprehensive business process automation that covers procedures from procurement through payment, also known as procure-to-pay (P2P) technology.  The system helps hotel chains and brands, management companies, individual properties, franchisees, restaurants and country clubs leverage collective buying power, improve operations and lower costs by streamlining purchasing, inventory, food-cost management and accounts payable functions across a variety of geographic regions and property types.  Birch Street’s solutions enable increased supply chain visibility and give customers closed-loop insight into their global spend. With Birch Street ’s systems, its customers control the complete P2P cycle -- from strategy to execution -- and help them make and execute decisions that align with corporate strategy by optimizing supplier selection, compressing cycle times and building sustainable, workable supplier relationships.
