Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort Launches Restaurant Application for the iPhone and iTouch, Providing Convenient Access to its 17 Restaurants and Lounges

Guests and future guests of the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort now can decide what dish at which of the resort’s 17 restaurants and lounges they want to enjoy, from the convenience of their iPhone or iTouch.

As dining continues to become a more integral part of the travel experience, the resort has taken advantage of the growing popularity of Apple’s iPhone and iTouch, creating an application for the devices which gives foodies and vacation planners alike, the opportunity to conveniently plan and reserve the meals before or during their stay using their phone.

Available for download at Apple’s App store, the application features menus, descriptions, photos and reservation information for all the restaurants located at the 2,265-room resort, which include celebrity chef restaurant, Todd English’s bluezoo; Shula’s Steak House, restaurant of NFL legend, Don Shula; and noted Italian restaurant, Il Mulino New York Trattoria.

“This application provides our guests yet another option in addition to calling the dining reservation line or browsing the resort’s Web site," said Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort Food and Beverage Director Tony Porcellini. “The ease of use and convenience this application provides helps us ensure our guests have the best dining experience possible.”

The demand for information from the iPhone and iTouch devices has grown rapidly.  According to Nielsen, there were 6.2 million iPhone users in the United States as of April 2009; up more than 2 million since 2008. 

The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort’s iPhone application allows users to select their category of restaurant outlet from the home page – signature, casual, quick service, character dining or lounges. From there, they can read descriptions, view photos and review menus of the restaurant of their choice. For easy access to reservations, the application provides links directly to the resort’s dining reservations phone number and Web site. 

As a leader in individual hotel technology, the resort has continually taken aggressive steps to lead the way in developing systems typically offered by larger entities, such as hotel chains and destinations. The hotel was among the first individual properties to unveil a hotel-specific Web site when hotel Web sites were still an industry novelty.  They went on to expand their Internet technology usage by leading the way in introducing an online group reservation system, 360-degree photo tours and other innovative features for leisure and convention guests.  

This is the second iPhone and iTouch application from the hotel, which became one of the first individual hotels to launch its own hotel application last summer.
