New GuestPad Engages Visitors, Encourages Real-Time Social Media Interaction - Our pad is your pad…In its ongoing effort to create the most unique and memorable guest experience, Hotel Indigo San Diego, the flagship property of InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) upscale boutique brand, is the first Hotel Indigo in the world to equip its team with Apple iPads.

“We took the idea of having a guest book and made it digital,” said Chris Jones, general manager. “With the introduction of the iPad, not only can our staff easily provide guests with real-time recommendations and conversation from our knowledgeable team, but also from our current clients, neighbors and local residents.”

Known for its intimate and inviting service, Hotel Indigo’s new “GuestPad” program will allow the hotel to connect with visitors and guests, especially tech-savvy travelers, like never before. Guided by hotel staff, guests will be invited to use the iPad to post comments and questions to Hotel Indigo’s network of followers and fans on social media sites like Twitter (@HotelIndigoSD) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/hotelindigoSD) to instantly receive local destination advice.

“This new service is refreshingly local, allowing guests to connect to our vast online community and get the inside scoop on the Gaslamp Quarter, East Village and surrounding San Diego area,” continued Jones. “Our goal is to make our visitors and guests feel welcome and part of the neighborhood by connecting in real-time to folks just like them who have become advocates and fans of Hotel Indigo.”

Taking the immediacy of social networking a step further, the hotel will also stream a live feed of its Twitter and Facebook pages on a widescreen TV monitor in the lobby.

Hotel Indigo expects the “GuestPad” will enhance its current interaction with guests in various ways, including:

  • Local Recommendations – Guests will be able to discover firsthand from San Diegans and Hotel Indigo fans about favorite local restaurants, bars and other recommended entertainment offerings, as well as hidden gems. Guests will enjoy a virtual insiders’ guide to neighborhood picks they wouldn’t normally find in visitors guides.
  • Instant Booking Confirmations – Hotel staff’s recommendations of restaurants, performances and attractions can be clearly illustrated with vibrant images and sharp text, and bookings may be made and confirmed instantly by e-mail. Hotel staff’s top recommendations will also come to life on the iPad as they give guests a clearer idea of selected activities before they set off.
  • Enhanced Maps and Directions – Rather than jot directions on a foldable paper map, hotel staff will be able to provide exact directions, through interactive maps with high-resolution satellite imagery, close-up street views and detailed walking routes.
