Hospitality Solutions International (HSI), a division of MICROS Systems, Inc., and leading provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality industry today announced that the Profit Series Point of Sale (POS) application is available for use with the Apple iPad as an innovative and inexpensive alternative to traditional tablet devices for mobile POS systems.

Additionally, HSI announced it will unveil the new iPad mobile solution at the National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show® at Chicago's McCormick Place, May 22-25, 2010. HSI redefines the model of mobile devices again with the addition of the iPad; this practical solution to mobile POS is an affordable reality for the hospitality industry. The user-friendly iPad is the perfect mobile companion for Profit Series POS software. At 1.5 pounds and only 0.5 of an inch thick, the iPad is light-weight, easy to carry, and will operate the Profit Series POS application for up to 10 hours on a single charge. The large 9.7 inch display allows viewing of full Profit Series POS screens. The iPad, like the iPod touch, is equipped with a multi-touch screen enabling users to zoom in to "touch" areas of the screen and enlarge them, although most POS screens are easily viewed in their entirety. Profit Series POS screens are viewed in landscape orientation and locked to disable the automatic orientation change when rotated to portrait. Guest checks are opened, menu items are selected, and orders are sent to the kitchen in the same fashion as standard POS terminals. Since the Apple iPad uses the same interfaces and screens as a standard POS terminal, additional training for your servers is not necessary. With the addition of iPad, Profit Series POS users are now empowered to mix and match mobile devices to suit their requirements. Both the iPad and previously released iPod touch may be used interchangeably with a single Profit Series POS license. The result is a wireless solution that can address changing and evolving needs through the use of wireless networking as well as 3G connectivity for remote areas or off-site events. "The iPod touch changed how the industry looks at handheld POS but the smaller screen is not practical for every situation," stated Cyndi Shepley, General Manager and Vice President, HSI. "The iPad provides our clients another inexpensive option that addresses the screen size and can be used in similar settings as well as in tandem with the iPod. We continue to pioneer new and innovative solutions and are excited to bring these products to the industry."
