Marathon Tours & Travel ("Marathon"), the full service travel agency specializing in arrangements for marathon runners and their travel companions, has partnered with Passkey, one ofthe meeting industry's leading hotel booking technology, to bring marathon event accommodations online.

As the official travel agency for the Boston Athletic Association's Boston Marathon, Marathon offers the lowest rates at a wide variety of three, four and five-star hotels in the best locations.  Marathon will debut its new GroupMAX-powered online booking system for the 2011 Boston Marathon to be held on April 18, 2011 (Patriots Day) in Boston, Massachusetts.

"The complexity and breadth of a citywide event such as the Boston Marathon mandated the need for a technology with both the functionality and scalability of Passkey's GroupMAX system," states Thom Gilligan, President and Founder of Marathon Tours & Travel. "We wanted to simplify the housing process for runners, and with GroupMAX, we can cater the hotel descriptions to meet their specific needs by providing information such as distance from the event and the finish line.  Runners can easily select their reservations, as well as conveniently manage them online, 24/7."
Today, booking a hotel for marathon events is largely a manual process that requires runners and their companions to mail, fax or phone-in their housing preferences to the event organizer.  Utilizing Passkey's GroupMAX system, Marathon will now be able to automate this process and create a convenient experience for runners to book and manage their accommodations anytime.

By bringing hotel bookings to the web, Marathon will be able to leverage GroupMAX's suite of tools to track key event metrics online as well as communicate with attendees using highly targeted, professionally designed emails.  This will help Marathon make smarter and timelier decisions to optimize their hotel blocks and mitigate attrition exposure.

As for runners and their guests, they will be able to choose from multiple room types, extended stays and upgrade options, with different attendee types such as qualified runners, spectators and sponsors assigned to different hotel sub-blocks, enabling them to enjoy a booking experience that meets their specific needs.  In addition, attendees will be able to browse local attractions and services such as restaurants, tours and museums which will further drive economic value to the event and local communities.

"Sporting event attendees expect to make their hotel bookings on the web, and meeting planners expect to track their events online.  It's become a must-have," says Greg Pesik, President and CEO of Passkey.  "We're  thrilled to see Marathon Tours embrace our latest GroupMAX technology to bring its events online; having a prestigious event such as the Boston Marathon as their launch event is of particular meaning since the technology was built right here in Boston."
