More than 600 exhibitors of the 95th annual International Hotel, Motel + Restaurant Show® (IHMRS) experienced busy aisles filled with owners and operators ready to buy, indicating positive signs for a recovering economy and industry.

Some 15,154 buyers and 25,427 total trade professionals convened November 13-16, 2010, at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, where the latest innovations and services for hospitality were presented. Adding energy to the market experience was the launch of Boutique Design New York (BDNY), drawing an additional 3,100 designers and purchasing executives.

"On the heels of a few difficult years for the industry, we heard optimism resonating throughout the aisles," said Lynn White, IHMRS show manager. "Reports of increased leads and discussions of projects in the pipeline were reported by many exhibitors, who use the IHMRS annually as a gauge for the following year's business success."

"IHMRS is the only show we committed to this year, and it proved to be the show worth doing," said Eugene Paceleo, hospitality sales director for Frette. "Our expectations were exceeded, with more traffic than anticipated and a wide geographic range represented - including regional, national and international."

"The IHMRS is one of our single best ways to generate leads that turn into big sales," said Chris Gaunt, senior account executive of Procter & Gamble Professional. "We've been exhibiting here since 2001, and it continues to be a show we cannot afford to miss."

"Considering the state of the economy, we came into this show with the intent of just gathering feedback to determine if we have legs in the hospitality sector," said Gayle Ramsdell of Reverie, a company that before the 2010 IHMRS served only the retail market. "What we learned is that we need to gear up for some serious business with this industry. Buyers were excited about our new sleep system and are ready for something fresh and new for their properties."

The Hospitality Leadership Forum kicked off North America's leading hospitality event on Saturday, November 13, attracting more than 500 top-tier lodging executives seeking insight from leading experts through the CEO Leadership Panel and U.S. Lodging Industry Summit Panel. Highlighting the event was a keynote address by U.S. Department of Homeland Security Deputy Secretary Jane Holl Lute, who discussed new initiatives between DHS and the lodging industry. Breakout seminars followed, addressing such topics as "The ROI of Marketing," "Hospitality 2015: The Future of Hospitality & Travel," "Minimizing the Cost of Turnover," and "Are Where There Yet - Act III." Seminars continued throughout Sunday, November 14, and Monday, November 15, offering insight on current trends and proven tactics for business success in a new economy.

Foodservice professionals representing every sector of the industry - from business and industry dining to healthcare and restaurants - welcomed the return of The New York Marketplace, presented in conjunction with The M. Tucker Company. Within this dedicated space, manufacturers of equipment, tabletop and small wares were complemented by new product displays, food and beverage tastings, book signings, demonstrations and seminars.

The best new products on the show floor, as determined by a panel of editors from the leading hospitality trade publications, were once again recognized with Editors' Choice Awards during the Opening Ceremony on Sunday, November 14. The Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design were once again held in conjunction with the IHMRS, honoring the outstanding design firms responsible for the most remarkable hospitality properties around the world that were built or renovated within the past 18 months. Adding to the buzz on the show floor was the debut of Boutique Design New York (BDNY), a new hospitality interiors fair held adjacent to the IHMRS in Javits North Hall, featuring nearly 150 interior product manufacturers of high-end, unique and innovative design products for hospitality. More than 3,100 designers, hotel and restaurant owners and purchasing executives attended to source the latest in furniture, lighting, wall coverings, fabric, seating, accessories, artwork, carpet and flooring, materials, bath and spa.
