With its service-oriented architecture and flexible deployment options, MICROS Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:MCRS), a leading provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality and retail industries, has introduced Simphony with great success within the hospitality industry.

The latest customers to select MICROS Simphony include Starbucks and ARAMARK Higher Education.  Starbucks, one of the world’s premier roasters and retailers of specialty coffee, has completed deployment of MICROS Simphony to over 6,700 sites in the United States and will follow with sites in Canada and the United Kingdom.

ARAMARK Higher Education provides professional services in dining, facility, conference center and stadium and arena operations for more than 600 colleges and universities throughout North America.  MICROS Simphony has been deployed to over 80 sites in North America, utilizing 475 MICROS WS5 terminals primarily in campus dining including cafeterias and food courts.

MICROS Simphony is one of the world’s first truly service-oriented architecture (SOA) restaurant POS solutions designed specifically for the hospitality industry.  The centrally hosted MICROS Simphony provided Starbucks and ARAMARK Higher Education an easy way to deploy the system using a design that provides flexibility, resiliency and streamlined integration of applications.  MICROS Simphony also offers enhanced efficiency, real-time data, improved guest service, and a lower total cost of ownership and operation.

The massive U.S. deployment to Starbucks was substantially completed within 90 days, with 150 sites centrally activated with MICROS Simphony each business night.  “We selected MICROS for its leadership in the market, advanced software solutions, and global infrastructure,” said Curt Garner, senior vice president, business technology for Starbucks Coffee Company. “MICROS RES has served many of our international locations well; MICROS Simphony now provides the scalability we require for our enterprise and allows us to control and maintain brand consistency from a central location.  We now have the ability to roll out promotional offerings and changes rapidly.”

ARAMARK Higher Education required a centrally hosted system to assure ease of deployment and the most advanced security capabilities.  “Centralized management and reporting along with the ease of self-installation and ease of end-user training are a few of the key features we love about Simphony,” said Dominic Boffa, chief information officer and vice president, technology solutions of ARAMARK Higher Education.  “MICROS Simphony is a true enterprise POS solution that integrates easily with our ScanPlus Quantum® enterprise stored value card solution and enhances the student dining experience at all of our food and beverage operations across our business.”

“We are thrilled to be selected by Starbucks and ARAMARK Higher Education as their technology provider, and by the opportunity to partner with these leading companies and their world-class technology organizations,” said Tom Giannopoulos, chairman, president and CEO of MICROS Systems, Inc. “MICROS Simphony is already producing positive results for our customers around the world.  We look forward to partnering with each of these organizations for years to come.”
