The HSMAI Dallas/Ft. Worth chapter kicked off 2007 in celebrity proportions with the induction of its 2007 board of directors.

Hailing from all areas of the hospitality industry, this vibrant board promises to be the personal fan club of the Dallas/Ft. Worth chapter, leading the organization to a productive member year under the leadership of Philip Smerick, 2007 chapter president.

Smerick’s 2007 theme, “Party Like a Rock Star,” invites current members to get more involved in the organization, while capturing HSMAI’s reputation of being a high energy, celebratory organization that appreciates its members and their participation in its growth and development.

Smerick said, “2007 is going to be such a great year for DFW-HSMAI and I am fortunate to have such a strong board of directors with an array of talent and experience.  They are all rock stars without even trying.  Our goal this year is to expand our horizons regarding membership recruitment to our 'fan club' and to make sure all fan club members receive the best educational and networking experiences we can offer.  All of these experiences will help them become rock stars themselves in the hospitality industry.”

The 2007 board comprises a team of spirited individuals from all areas of the business. Leading the effort as bandleader and 2007 president is Philip Smerick of Murder Mystery Players.  No stranger to theatrics, Smerick’s background in acting and his spirited approach to leadership have membership all abuzz.  With the help of Gustine DeVos, immediate past president, the two promise HSMAI members a Grammy-winning year. “It's going to be one great party, and I'm thrilled to be along for the ride,” said DeVos.

Administration for HSMAI is no small task, and leading the effort this year as vice president of administration is Keitha Farrow of Garrett Creek Ranch with the help of board member Gil Geddes of Frontiers of Flight Museum.

The programs committee, led by vice president Bee Lee and board member Kimberly Hutcherson has an exciting agenda planned for the year. The addition of social events outside of the monthly meetings will give members an alternative social venue in which to meet and greet other members outside of normal business hours.  The twosome has also lined up an impressive roster of speakers, offering members a breadth of opportunities for professional growth.

The Dallas Chapter reports a steady increase in year-over-year membership, securing its position as one of the largest chapters in the nation.  With Jackie Schwitter of Texas Treats as vice president of membership and with the support of board member Ronda Smith of Embassy Suites Outdoor World, this committee aspires to continue the trend.

Windy Barnard of Embassy Suites Frisco has served on the HSMAI-DFW board for several years and she continues her participation as 2007 vice president of finance.  With the help of board member Sarah Christie of the Dallas Cowboys Football Club, the duo will handle the chapter’s finances, including presenting the proceeds from its annual chinese auction to the 2007 HSMAI beneficiary, Equest Therapeutic Horsemanship, who, through an extensive Equestrian program, provides therapeutic sports riding classes and hippotherapy to more than 200 clients each week.

Public relations is a big part of HSMAI’s reach within the hospitality industry and the committee has big plans for reinforcing the 2007 theme.  Vice president of public relations, Kristie Vento of InChorus Marketing & Promotion, and board member Alan Tregoning of SoftBrands will lead this committee.

The organization holds O.D. O’Donnell in great regard, as his dedication to the organization has spanned more than a decade.  Under his guidance of the board of directors and in his organizational commitment, the members are very excited about the year ahead.  O’Donnell said, "Watching this chapter grow both in membership and leadership has definitely been an amazing experience.  I wouldn't trade it for the world."

To celebrate this big member year, the 2007 board invites HSMAI-DFW members to join them in kicking off this member year on Thursday, February 15, at the Westin DFW Airport for its monthly meeting.  Not a typical monthly meeting, the board will be presenting to HSMAI members the benefits of committee participation and the importance of building up committee participation to better serve the hospitality community.  The event promises to be very exciting and will build upon the very essence of why HSMAI-DFW continues to be among the most popular organizations in the DFW metroplex.
