Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP®) will honor Brian L. Hightower, CHTP, as the 2011 CHTP (Certified Hospitality Technology Professional) of the Year during the Opening Session of the 2011 Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference (HITEC®) on Monday, June 20.

In its 14th year, the CHTP of the Year honors the individual that scored the highest on the CHTP certification exam in a given year.

Hightower is a systems administrator for Fisher Island Club, a private island residential community and exclusive club off Miami Beach, Fla. He began working at Fisher Island in 1999 in the hotel front office. In 2001 he transferred into IT, when the IT director noticed he had an aptitude for computer systems. Hightower currently manages the club and property management systems, point-of-sale and virtual infrastructure.

Developed jointly by HFTP and the Educational Institute (EI) of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), the CHTP designation is the ultimate achievement in hospitality information technology by showing a dedication to both the hospitality and technology industries. The CHTP exam was first given in 1994 at HITEC in Dallas, Texas. Since then, more than 340 professionals have earned the CHTP designation around the world. HFTP also administers the examination and awards the Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive (CHAE).
