The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) honored six partner state lodging associations with the annual Chair Cup awards at the board of directors meeting.

The awards recognize AH&LA partner state associations that have had the most significant increase in membership development and retention programs during the previous year.

Based on dues categories, the following states received awards for the greatest increase in percentage of properties, rooms and market penetration:

  • The Utah Hotel & Lodging Association received the award for the greatest percentage increase of properties in the $0 - $49,999 dues category.
  • The Michigan Lodging & Tourism Association received the award for the greatest percentage increase in both properties and rooms in the $50,000 - $99,999 dues category.
  • The Tennessee Hospitality Association received the award for the greatest percentage increase in both properties and rooms in the $100,000+ dues category.
  • The Oklahoma Hotel & Lodging Association received the award for the greatest percentage increase of rooms in the $0 - $49,999 dues category.
  • The Virginia Hospitality & Travel Association earned the honor for greatest increase in new rooms in the over $0 - $49,999 dues category.
  • The Maryland Hotel & Lodging Association was awarded the greatest increase in new rooms in the $50,000 - $99,999 dues category.
  • The Texas Hotel & Lodging Association received the award for the greatest increase in new rooms in the $100,000+ dues category, as well as the award for overall performance for greatest number of new members.

“In light of last year’s challenging economic climate, it is admirable these states were able to so successfully communicate the bottom line benefits of being part of the state and national lodging associations,” said AH&LA COO and Executive Vice President Pam Inman, IOM, CAE.  “Their dedicated, on-the-ground efforts are instrumental in our joint goal to represent every hotel in the country and leverage that collective strength on behalf of the industry.”
