Bandwidth demands continue to rise, driven by an increase in online users, their time spent online, and a rapid shift to bandwidth-intensive, multimedia applications. According to Internet consultancy Trendstream, broadband video is the fastest-growing medium in history, with recent comScore data showing that more than 1.5 billion minutes were spent
watching live streaming video in July 2010 - a 600 percent year-over-year increase. As for recorded video, YouTube alone served up more than 40
billion minutes worth of video in a single month.
