The Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP) New Orleans Chapter will host a full New Orleans tour for individuals attending the HFTP Club and Hotel Conference, March 19-20.

The chapter has seen great interest in the tour; reservations have the two buses filled to capacity with 48 people. The complimentary tour on March 18, will include the history of the city, a chronology of the events of Hurricane Katrina and visits to the major levee breaches and devastated neighborhoods as well as visits to the unscathed areas of charm - all to give a better understanding of the importance of the city to the nation and to give a glimpse of the rebirth of the city.

"Events such as the Club and Hotel Controllers Conference are helping to revitalize the hospitality industry in New Orleans," said Robert Oprea, CHAE, CHTP, controller for Le Pavillon Hotel in New Orleans and a director on the HFTP International Board. "Although many areas have been improved since the hurricane, there is still a significant amount of work to be done. However, New Orleans is ready for business. The New Orleans chapter thought the tour would be good a way to provide a first-hand view of the area presented by locals who are familiar with the city."

The HFTP Greater New Orleans Chapter is sponsoring this event with the hope that conference attendees will gain an understanding of the magnitude of the Hurricane Katrina devastation to the region. They also want to demonstrate the importance of this unique area to the country, the rebuilding progress, and, most of all, the readiness and the hospitality of a city eager for the return of conventions and tourism.

HFTP, which produces several conferences annually, has held numerous events in New Orleans in the past. Immediately after Hurricane Katrina, the association looked to help the city’s hospitality industry regain its strength and scheduled The 2007 March Club and Hotel Controllers Conference. The conference was the first upcoming, non-contracted meeting that HFTP could reserve after the hurricane devastated the area.

"We, the chapter, are very thankful for the support from the HFTP staff and members," said Oprea. "Immediately after the storm, we received many heartfelt well wishes, offers of donations and even offers of temporary residence from many associated with HFTP. The choice of New Orleans for the Club and Hotel Conference is another indication of the faithfulness that stands true in our association."

HFTP's popular Club and Hotel Controllers Conferences, held twice annually, feature identical education programs with topics important to the club and hotel industries. In 2007, the first conference will be March 19 - 20 at The Ritz-Carlton New Orleans in New Orleans, La. The second conference will be held June 26 - 27 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.
