Accor North America, one of the nation’s largest owner/operators of economy lodging, announced the opening of 55 hotels in 2011, all under franchise contracts. The latest openings include 49 Motel 6 and six Studio 6 properties with a room count of more than 4,100.

As part of the company’s asset-light strategy and goals to expand its franchise network, Motel 6 plans to add at least 50 locations in 2012, including further expansion in Canada and into major urban and metropolitan areas. Studio 6 plans to add approximately 10 locations in 2012.

“Our continued franchise growth is a testament to the brands’ strength, proven business models and the supportive partnership we offer to our franchisees,” said Jim Amorosia, CEO for Motel 6 and Studio 6. “Through our aggressive operations and asset management strategy, we will continue to optimize franchise growth and the Motel 6 network in 2012 to better serve our guests wherever they want to travel.”

The 2011 additions cover 23 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces. Franchise locations account for approximately 45 percent of the Motel 6/Studio 6 network.
