Centrally located to all things D.C., The Madison after recently completing a $22 million dollar renovation has installed VingCard Elsafe's Signature RFID Online locks and the Orion energy management system, both of which are supported by the VISIONLINE software solution in order to more effectively control the daily energy output of the historic hotel.

The VISIONLINE software system by VingCard Elsafe is comprised of a wireless locking system that has standalone electronic hotel locks operating in online mode through a specific radio frequency that operates on a high security open platform. The Orion system is comprised of wireless digital thermostats, occupancy sensors, door position interfaces, remote server software and a comprehensive dashboard reporting interface. The room control dashboard provides an overview of guestroom electronic systems, including occupancy status, locks, safes, lighting and total energy consumption. Orion automatically assumes control of ambient temperature when guestrooms are unoccupied, preventing them from becoming either too warm or too cold. Upon guests' return, the system automatically resumes the preset temperature settings. In addition, the Orion system interfaces with the hotel's property management system to pre-condition the room upon guest check-in and automatically engage enhanced energy savings mode upon check-out.

Using this system, The Madison will have a real-time dashboard overview of conditions in each of our 356 guest rooms, providing valuable information such as occupancy status, temperature and total energy consumption, which in turn will inform hotel staff about which guest rooms are the most energy-efficient and offers clues on how to improve the hotel’s utilities consumption for the sake of the environment.

“As we emerge from our restoration, the addition of the VingCard Elsafe system is the next step in the transformation of The Madison,” said managing director Jim Horsman. “As we move into Inauguration and our 50th anniversary in 2013, we are looking to the future of The Madison and ways to become a more energy-efficient hotel.”

VingCard Elsafe’s Orion energy management system is reducing unnecessary energy consumption at hotels worldwide. “VingCard Elsafe is doing our part to help the world become a little greener—and to help our valued hotel partners, like The Madison, in turn to allocate more financial resources to ensuring a premier guest stay experience,” said Tim Shea, president of ASSA ABLOY Hospitality.
