Developed jointly by HFTP and the Educational Institute (EI) of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), the CHTP designation elevates the professionalism of both the recipient and the industry by helping to set standards for the field. The CHTP exam was first given in 1994 at HITEC in Dallas, Texas. Since then, more than 250 professionals have earned the CHTP designation representing countries from North America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

HFTP and EI recently launched the CHTP exam online, providing access to the exam from any computer and instant e-mail results. The 250-question exam includes new questions regarding emerging hospitality technologies. Other exam questions cover: technology concepts; specific hotel systems (i.e. PMS); systems rooted in other industries but also used in the hospitality sector (i.e. the Internet); and general hotel management practices.

HFTP also administers the examination and awards the Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive (CHAE), which is recognized as THE symbol of achievement in the profession of hospitality accounting. It will be available online soon.
