Denihan Names Carl L. Cohen Chief Experience Officer

Denihan, owner/operator of luxury and upscale boutique hotels in key U.S. markets, has appointed Carl L. Cohen to the newly-created position of chief experience officer (CXO).

He will report to Brooke Barrett, chief executive officer of Denihan Hospitality, and serve on the company’s executive committee.

According to Barrett, Cohen will be responsible for ensuring that the overall customer experience is a key differentiator across Denihan’s portfolio, which includes The James brand, Affinia Hotel Collection and independent Manhattan luxury boutiques, The Surrey and The Benjamin.  

“With his robust experience in brand building and customer insight, Carl will play a key role in aligning our marketing and branding efforts across the organization, ensuring that we deliver a superior multi-channel customer experience,” said Barrett.

Cohen joins Denihan from MGM Resorts International where he served as CMO/VP Marketing City Center: Aria Resort & Casino, Vdara Hotel & Spa and The Shops at Crystals. He has 15 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, where earlier positions included SVP marketing and customer facing technology for Starwood Hotels & Resorts and chief sales and marketing officer for Dolce Hotels & Resorts.

Cohen began his career in consumer-packaged goods at Colgate Palmolive and subsequently progressed through brand management roles at Philip Morris. He later served as president of Cegedim Dendrite Interactive Marketing, a firm that delivers customer relationship management to the pharmaceutical industry.

He received his master of business administration degree in marketing from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting and spanish from SUNY Albany, N.Y.
