Pacifica Hotels and Clairvoyix – Facing the Carnage Head-on:  The Great Recession that ended in 2012 spawned 8 years of robust growth in the hospitality industry, and it seemed like the good times would never end. Most of us in the business knew that the economy in general is cyclical, and therefore a downturn was inevitable. What most of us did not know was that a pandemic could almost immediately turn full hotels empty. Even the best planners in the business were taken off guard by the speed at which state governors enacted stay-at-home orders.  

Pacifica Hotels and Clairvoyix – A Collaboration Rooted in Success: Working with John Pedlow, Pacifica’s vice president of revenue, we discussed candidly that for the short-term Pacifica’s 25 plus properties would not show any appreciable revenue. We discussed a new industry recovery based program that would essentially allow hotel companies to continue communicating with their past guests while providing financial relief to the hoteliers that made sense. John Pedlow knew the importance and effectiveness of direct marketing to past guests, and he knew it was more important now than at any time in their history.  “At Pacifica we understood that the recovery was inevitable, but we did not know when we would be back to normal revenues. I never wanted to cease communicating with our valued customers, but the most important thing was our financial viability. Clairvoyix demonstrated a willingness to work with us, and a sensible financial plan was developed and agreed to by the parties. This allowed us to focus on operational concerns knowing our direct marketing program would stay intact.”
