CityCenter Implements KABA Saflok Messenger RFID Locking System in 5,900 Rooms, and Sheraton Centre-Ville in Montreal Upgrades to KABA ILCO RFID
CityCenter Las Vegas implemented KABA’s Saflok Messenger RFID locking system across 5,900 rooms at multiple properties.  This is one of the world’s largest RFID door lock installations and one of the hospitality industry’s first uses of the Zigbee wireless mesh network.

Saflok’s Messenger RFID door locking technology offers a reliable next-generation solution to mag-stripe card keys.  RFID keys cannot be demagnetized by cell phones or articles in a guest’s pocket or purse.  Reliable door keys are essential to efficient operations and guest service, particularly in large properties where as many as 15 percent of mag-stripe keys may suffer code erasure.

With RFID there is no need to move the key in and out of a slot; the system enables guests to unlock the door by flashing their key over a lock reader.

CityCenter selected Saflok RFID electronic locks because KABA was able to integrate its electronic locking system with the complex’s in-room network and Zigbee infrastructure, which created hardware management efficiencies.  When a guest first opens his or her door Saflok sends a message via a Zigbee wireless network to the Control4 in-room controller, which activates a welcome theme if it is the guest’s first time in the room. Lights come up, curtains automatically part to showcase the spectacular mountain and city views, and the TV displays controls for guests to personalize.

Sheraton Centre-Ville in Montreal Installs ILCO RFID Locks
The 950-rooms Sheraton Centre-Ville in Quebec completed installation of the ILCO 790 RFID electronic door locking system.  The Sheraton implemented the ILCO RFID locking solution and ATLAS access control system because key reliability is essential to guest satisfaction.  “We have more than 900 rooms on ILCO’s RFID system and now we do not have key complaints anymore,” said Daniel Verner, controller for Sheraton Centre-Ville in Montreal.

The ILCO electronic door locking system interfaces with the property’s Galaxy PMS and the Sheraton’s new IBM self checkin lobby kiosks.  RFID card-key coding is breakthrough technology for kiosk use and the Sheraton Montreal is using the system to boost guest service.

Advantages from networked Saflok and ILCO RFID door locking systems include:

  • RFID locks are sealed with fewer moving parts which reduces maintenance;
  • In Saflok systems the battery status of all door locks and in-room devices is automatically monitored for efficient maintenance and virtually zero downtime when room systems are managed on a wireless network.  Additionally, Saflok RFID door locks can communicate over a property’s wireless or wired network, enabling the front desk to remotely program any door to accept a guest’s existing key.
