Onity is a leading provider of innovative mobile access and electronic locking solutions. Part of Carrier Global Corporation, the company has a sales and service network that spans more than 115 countries.

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Onity team, led by President Fayyad Sbaihat, took immediate action to protect both employees and customers. Most staff members from the Salem, Oregon, office began working remotely in accordance with state requirements. For those who needed to remain on-site, protections were immediately put into place, including thermal scanning, social distancing, reconfigured workspaces, a second cleaning crew to disinfect surfaces and limited occupancy in break rooms and lunch areas.

In addition, Sbaihat and his team moved swiftly to support customers, many of whom had arranged for installations and upgrades during the months of April and May. Onity adjusted schedules to minimize disruption and provided guidance to help properties temporarily close operations safely and securely, such as recommending how to shut down front desk systems. For its hotel customers that were repurposed as medical facilities, Onity provided helpful information explaining how to convert hotel guestroom locks to nonlocking patient rooms to allow access to medical staff. The company also waived its fees for the change-out service.

Moreover, because of travel restrictions, Onity developed procedures that allowed technicians to provide many services remotely. With the cooperation of hotels’ facilities teams, technicians are conducting remote site surveys, as well as troubleshooting problems via mobile collaboration tools.

Now, as hotels look toward the future, Onity is proud to work with them to provide contactless check-in and property access. The company’s DirectKey™ system uses secure key credentialing and Bluetooth technology to let hotel guests download assigned keys to their smartphones for easy access to rooms and other controlled areas. The solution has been deployed in more than 5,000 hotels around the world and has been used to open doors more than 100 million times.

DirectKey is compatible with the most popular electronic locks. So, if a chain hotel uses locks from different brands, for example, DirectKey works with all of them. Hotels can choose full integration with their own app or simply add the hotel’s logo to the Onity-hosted app.

DirectKey is part of the Carrier Healthy Buildings Program, which provides an expanded suite of advanced solutions to help deliver healthier, safer, more efficient and productive indoor environments across key verticals including commercial offices, healthcare, hospitality, education and retail.

“Today, hotels must connect with guests in entirely new ways, empowering them to take control of their stay and how they interact with staff,” Sbaihat said. “Onity stands ready to help with an advanced contactless mobile key solution that ot only addresses guest safety and comfort, but also helps drive a superior guest experience.”
