What are some of your responsibilities?
Like at home, I make the coffee.  I am the first one in, in the mornings.  But aside from that, my role wears many hats, as do most people in the hospitality industry.  I am responsible for managing the corporate network, which includes our sister company, EMCVenues.com.  I also oversee all technology and audio video design and installation on our owned and managed hotels, as well as new construction.  Outside of IT, I also handle many business projects from H1N1 awareness to revenue maximization.

What do you like most about your job?
I love getting to see Rich Siegel every time I travel.  Really, it seems like regardless of the event, Rich is there!  Outside of that, I love to be able to build and design new things, working with companies that may not yet be established that could give us an edge over the competition.

Where did you go to school? What was your major?
I went to Johnson & Wales University, in Charleston, S.C.  I received an AAS in Culinary Arts and a BS in Food Service Management.  I am currently working on my Masters in Information Technology from UMBC.  So a bit of a career change, but I am just trying to fulfill what my guidance counselor told me in high school - “You will change careers seven times within your lifetime.”  I am on career number five actually, maybe number seven can be pro skier?

What is your favorite movie?
Tough question, I could go totally geek on this and talk about how I think the latest Star Trek movie was probably the best one since “Generations,” but I think my all-time favorite would have to be "Better Off Dead."  Oh, and did you know that R2D2 made a guest appearance in the latest Star Trek film?

What is your favorite song?
This day and age, with so many songs… I would have to say Green Day, Muse and Death Cab For Cutie all top my list in various ways. Classically (rock), I go for Yes, Peter Gabriel and Genesis.  Of course if I were to just pick one song I would say, “How Do You Like Me Now” by The Heavy.  In fact, every time I hear the song I want to go clubbing in Vegas dressed as a sock puppet; I think that would be hilarious.

What is your favorite line from a movie or song?
“Gee, I’m really sorry your mom blew up, Ricky.” - John Cusack, Better Off Dead

What was your first job?
I was a paperboy… then they became paper carriers to be politically correct. Today its some weird guy driving around in a Pinto throwing news out the window, at least in my neighborhood.

What was your most interesting day at work?
Prior to joining Thayer, it would have had to be when I met Adam West and his wife, who were staying at my hotel while dropping their son off at Duke.  More recently, it was the day I finished installing all the new equipment in our new office and got to see my MDF built from ground up and looking pretty.

What would you do if you won the lottery?
Nothing… well how much money are we talking about here?  Can I buy a hockey team?

When you are not working, what do you enjoy doing?
Watching the Caps hockey games and playing Xbox, in fact spending many late nights playing Bioshock 2 right now.

What is the next technology to impact the hospitality industry?
I think I have been saying this for a while. It doesn’t matter what the technology is, hotels need to put in the back-end infrastructure to support the technology first.
