HEI Hotels & Resorts (“HEI”) announced that 20 hotels, including Hyatt, Marriott, Starwood and InterContinental properties, were breached through POS malware.

HEI stated in the announcement that it was alerted of the potential security incident by its card processor. The attack was active March 1, 2015 through June 21, 2016, potentially affecting thousands of customers—according to a statement released by HEI last Friday.

Based upon HEI’s investigation, software designed to capture payment card information was installed on its payment processing systems.

HEI reports, “The malware could have affected payment card data—including name, payment card account number, card expiration date, and verification code—of customers who used a payment card at point-of-sale terminals.”

The list of the properties affected and the timeframes involved are available on the HEI statement.
