About Positron: Positron helps hotels meet or exceed guest expectations by providing the comforts, cleanliness and convenience of home, along with the communication network of a modern workplace. Failure to do so is failure to meet the basics of hospitality. Positron enables hotels to efficiently and cost effectively evolve to in-room Wi-Fi and IPTV without rewiring. Reliable in-room high speed Wi-Fi is increasingly required as hotels also depend on robust and seamless Wi-Fi to optimize their own operations and guarantee access to back-of-house services and applications.
The Problem Hotels Face: The increased dependency on robust property-wide Wi-Fi emphasises the need for a fully converged Gigabit Ethernet backbone, serving public areas, staff-only areas and, most importantly, guestrooms and other public areas. Guests expect the same connectivity they have at home for entertainment like gaming and streaming, as well as for business needs like video calling and cloud computing applications. Legacy “corridor Wi-Fi” and data over cable service interface specification (DOCSIS) solutions simply can't provide this.
Achieving the Wi-Fi Quality Needed: A direct wired Ethernet connection is needed to achieve the desired Wi-Fi quality in guestrooms. This Ethernet backbone is critical to securely serve guests and allow hotel staff to access back-of-house over secure dedicated service set identifier (SSID) in their specific VLAN virtual local area networks. This is represented by recently issued updates to property networking standards such as Marriott GPNS 2.0. Small brands and budget hotels are adopting similar strategies.
The Rewiring Problem: Rewiring the hotel with structured cabling or fiber is costly and involves construction disruption, making rooms unavailable to guests for days. This is often made worse by the discovery of asbestos or other surprise complexities after construction begins. Unavailable rooms means lost revenue, adding significantly to rewiring costs.
The Solution: The Positron Solution eliminates these high costs and risks for owners by avoiding rewiring. The hotel remains intact and undisturbed. The Positron Solution takes advantage of existing coaxial cable used for TV services to deliver high-speed Gigabit Ethernet to each room for Wi-Fi, IPTV and other guest services. The maximum time a room would be unavailable during installation – which can be done at a time of the hotel's choosing – is 20 minutes. The installed cost per room is a fraction of the cost to rewire.
Other Benefits: At no additional cost, the Positron Solution allows seamless, transparent migration to IPTV, when the hotel chooses. The Positron-enabled Gigabit Ethernet backbone can also be used for smartroom applications including smart door locks, video monitoring, leak detection, HVAC control, alarms, and other IoT applications as they develop.
Support: The Positron Solution is approved by the brands installed and supported by major managed service providers (MSPs) trained and supported by Positron. Furthermore, the Positron Professional Services team can complement the MSPs with site surveys, installation and turnup services when needed. The Positron Virtuoso cloud-based system is available to turn up and monitor all services and devices to proactively detect and report any issues.
Certifications: Certified by Marriott Global Property Network Standards (GPNS) for high-speed internet access (HSIA), by IHG for IHG Studio and IHG Connect, Hyatt as well as other major brands and independents.
