Gerrit Reinders, vice president of Telkonet, Inc., has been appointed to a two year term on the board of directors for the U.S. Green Building Council.

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a global organization consisting of a diverse group of builders, design professionals, environmentalists, corporations, nonprofits and citizens with over 13,000 member organizations and 188,000 LEED accredited professionals that share the same vision of a sustainable built environment. The board of directors guides the organization and articulates and upholds the vision, values and mission of USGBC.

"I've been described as a tree hugging capitalist and have always been on the forefront of energy and energy management technologies," said Reinders. "I am deeply appreciative of this opportunity to serve on the USGBC board and have proudly accepted the appointment to fill the technology seat.  I look forward to using my experience in identifying opportunities where people, companies and technologies can be integrated into a sustainable value proposition that improves the built environment.  I feel privileged for the opportunity and intend to be very active in helping guide the USGBC to achieve their goals."

With nearly 30 years experience in the clean tech industry and an early adopter and promoter of green buildings and sustainability, Reinders is committed to being a catalyst for broad adoption and implementation of technologies and processes that improve the built environment, which lead to improved indoor and outdoor environments.

Mr. Reinders is executive vice president of Telkonet and oversees its sales efforts and marketing programs.  The firm's EcoSmart intelligent energy management system typically reduces energy use in unoccupied rooms by up to 45 percent.  Prior to joining Telkonet, he was vice president of sales at Energy Focus Inc., where he helped the firm grow sales by 280 percent. Before that he was with Johnson Controls Inc. for 18 years, most recently as director of global energy and sustainability programs.

"I am especially pleased to have Gerrit serve on the USGBC board," said Jason Tienor, CEO of Telkonet. "His passion for developing global energy and sustainability programs and strategies will help create superior economic, environmental and social value for future commercial building projects and for society at large."
