Group 1: Meet for IBM X-Force Command Experience – Lobby

IBM X-force Command Experience
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for CIOs to learn what to do first-hand and in real time, in the event of a cyber-attack on a company.” – David Starmer, CIO Sonesta Hotels
“I didn’t know anything like this existed – a full-on, immersive simulation.” – Chief Revenue Officer, Optiv
Tabletop exercises and unpracticed runbooks won’t be enough to get a company ready for a security breach. Cyber responders, from the security operations center to the C-suite and boardroom and business units from HR to PR, need the skills and reflexes to act with confidence in fluid, do-or-die situations.
The elite squad of experts from IBM X-Force Command trains organizations in crisis response to a cyber security breach in an immersive, high-intensity, simulated, gamified environment.
Attendees will use real-world tools to discover the nature of the problem and respond to the threat. They will test problem-solving ability and see if they can solve the puzzle, while discovering how strategic and technical teams can work together.
This pre-summit activity will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4th. We will meet in the lobby at the Royal Sonesta at 8:30am to make the short walk to the IBM facility.

*The Command Center is only a four minute walk from the hotel.

Meet for Rowing Activity - Lobby

2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Row, Row, Row Your Boat...on the Charles River!

Rowing is the ultimate team sport and a staple of northeastern outdoor sports. Working together on the water to synchronize team performance, cooperation and improved appreciation for everyone pulling their oar is the ultimate networking and team-building experience.

In this unique pre-conference activity, attendees will learn the fundamentals of the sport from experienced CRI certified coaches who will provide training and guidance on world class equipment – first with indoor rowing machines, and then teams will board 12-person catamarans and hit the beautiful Charles River for open water instruction and practice.
The event will culminate in a heated race of CIO team vs. CIO team to claim the coveted title of 2019 CIO Summit Rowing Champions!
This activity is open to everyone, regardless of fitness level, age or athletic ability. Wear regular workout clothing that is snug fitting (the seats in the boats move with your body weight) and athletic, rubber soled shoes. The event will last around two hours.

To host this exciting activity, the CIO Summit is teaming up with Community Rowing, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to the belief that rowing provides unique opportunities to promote personal and community growth. Since 1985 they have been working with local youth and underserved members of their local community to bring the sport of rowing to everyone.

We will meet in the lobby of the Royal Sonesta at around 1:30 to pick up a boxed lunch and board a bus for transportation to the dock.

What it Means to be a Transformational IT Leader - Grand Ballroom B, West Tower Martha Heller’s keynote address, “What it Means to be a Transformational IT Leader,” inspires CIOs and their senior leadership teams to embrace their roles as enterprise leaders in the digital era. Today, the most successful CIOs think in terms of “products” not “projects” and transform their teams from order-takers into co-creators who work in lockstep with their business partners. Transformational IT leaders understand that while they are accountable for systems, systems is not their job. Their job is to create a vision for the company’s future. Throughout her talk, Martha illustrates her messages with real transformation stories from some of the world’s most successful companies and with highly relevant lessons learned from the CIOs who led those transformations.

Tour of the legendary Fenway Park - Meet in the lobby at 4

"Cause it's one, two, three strikes, you're out, at the old ball game ..."
This year we’re taking the CIOs out to the ball game, or at least an exclusive tour of the legendary Fenway Park.  Since 1912 Fenway Park has been home for the Boston Red Sox. From the Green Monster to the lone red seat, this spectacular piece of American history is sure to excite you. Our CIOs will get to exclusively walk on the field and watch as the legendary Boston Red Sox warm-up for their game. And if you’re lucky, we may even buy you some peanuts and Cracker Jacks.

6:00 PM

This year’s CIOs will have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to brew a CIO Summit Beer! Whether you like a hearty stout, a hoppy IPA, or a light-bodied lager, you will get to customize the craft brew recipe to suit your beer palate. The beer making experience starts by choosing your ingredients including hops, barley, and more. Don’t worry—the Award-Winning Brewers will help you choose your ingredients to handcraft your beer. However, the recipe is completely up to you. After you finish brewing your own beer, you will kick back, relax and join your peers for tasty hand-crafted charcuterie boards, and flatbreads during the brew. Thirsty? There are twenty tap lines featuring beer from the Hopsters’ Brewery, a selection of New England beers and ciders and an assortment of wine and spirits.

Chris Hemmeter, General Partner of Thayer Ventures, will speak about the thought processes he and the Thayer team use to identify markets of opportunity in travel and hospitality technology, evaluate infant firms in those markets and finally determine whether or not to invest.

Annual Interactive Roundtable - Grand Ballroom A, West Tower
One of the highlights of the entire event has always been the final session of the CIO Summit. This session inspires conversation and debate and consistently leaves attendees wanting more. With CIOs seated in a circle (round), we will talk about things no one else dares discuss. In past years, we’ve talked about the elimination of your job and shared valuable trade secrets of how to negotiate funding for IT projects. This year’s intervention promises to tackle more tough questions and is definitely NOT politically correct! You’ll definitely want to stay for this session that tackles the issues concerning CIOs.
